The Young Communist League of Britain stands unequivocally with the Cuban people in their valiant struggle against United States’ imperialist aggression, exemplified by the recent executive order imposing a fuel blockade on Cuba.

Despite the illegal US blockade which has been imposed for nearly seven decades, the Cuban people have not only endured but provided material solidarity to oppressed people across the world.

In recent weeks, Dr. Fidel Antonio Castro Smirnov, grandson of the commander in chief of the Cuban revolution Fidel Alejandro Castro Ruz, toured Britain at events organised by the Cuba Solidarity Campaign (CSC) and its local affiliates, and organised, supported and attended by YCL members and comrades of our mother Party. Dr. Castro spoke not only on the resistance of the Cuban people and their strength in unity, an act of the human will, but also on Cuba’s medical education and sending of doctors around the world. These are not the actions of, as the Trump government’s diktat claims, “an unusual and extraordinary threat”.

An attack on Cuba, therefore, is not only an attack on a sovereign independent country but an attack on all those who have been provided assistance from Cuba’s life-saving solidarity. In contravention of the most basic principles and bottom line of human decency, under US pressure countries have been forced to expel Cuban doctors.

Cuba is an example that another world is possible, a socialist world of peace where one’s work enriches life and their community. This is an example that the capitalist powers cannot accept, and in their arrogance believe they can quash. With the solidarity of the world’s peoples through campaigns such as the Nuestra América Flotilla, our generation will continue the fight that Fidel Castro struggled for throughout his life; as his grandson said, “the legacy of Fidel is not a question of the past, but of the future.”

Send doctors, not bombs! Educate children, not impoverish them! Starve the warmongers, not the people!

Comrades and friends are invited to take the following actions in solidarity with Cuba:

  • In Scotland, join the Scottish Cuba Solidarity Campaign.

For peace, jobs and socialism!
