On May 2, 2014 armed fascists attacked the House of Trade Unions in Odessa and carried out a horrific sustained massacre on all those inside. The Ukrainian authorities have not held the perpetrators to account for their crimes.
It is imperative that we remember those brave trade unionists and communists who were brutally murdered in Odessa last May. We will not forget. We will remember all those who perished in the brutal attack led by fascists. We will not stop until all those who committed this heinous crime are held to account.
The Solidarity with Antifascist Resistance in Ukraine campaign was established at a London meeting on June 2, 2014, and one of its aims is precisely “to demand that the killers of 42 people at the House of Trade Unions in Odessa on May 2 be brought to justice.”
Join us at 1pm at the Ukrainian Embassy near Holland Park this May 2 and do your bit in the fight for peace and against fascism. Here’s a video of a protest the campaign held last year against the Kiev coup government’s plans to ‘outlaw communists’ and their vicious war against the people of Eastern Ukraine:
Since then, although the judges who were working on the case to outlaw the communist movement resigned due to ‘undue pressure’ from the Kiev regime, parliament has passed a law banning public symbols and propaganda of communist ideology. Not only does this mean repression for the very popular Communist Party and the democratic rights of those who vote for it, but also the removal of Soviet and WWII monuments, paving the way for pro-Nazi revisionism. In the same law parliament recognised Nazi collaborators as ‘freedom fighters’.
There will also be a photo exhibition to commemorate the 42 anti-fascists from 3pm til 9pm at the Marx Memorial Library at 37a Clerkenwell Green in London, EC1R 0DU, including a reception with drinks and food.
If you cannot make the protest, please come along to the exhibition and see what is really happening in Ukraine.
