COVID AID IN LONDON 📣 . What are we calling for to protect working people during this pandemic? . 1.  Protective equipment and training for all medical and frontline workers. . 2.  State direction and taking over of private sector technology and production to make what we need, including the pharmaceutical industry, the arms industry and companies manufacturing materials like soap and anti-bacterial gel. Investment in healthcare and setting up of new temporary medical facilities. . 3.  Coordinated strategies to ensure the distribution of vital goods and services, and emergency measures to eliminate homelessness and provide essential care to vulnerable groups. Free childcare and creche services for key workers. . 4.  A ban on all layoffs and redundancies. Full pay protection for all workers, including a guaranteed minimum income for the self-employed. Reinstatement for all employees already laid off or made redundant. . 5.  Increased support for vulnerable young people in schools through Free School Meals and social work contact. Mental health support for students and young people affected by the crisis. Coordinated support and clarifications for students and young people to continue their studies online, including for homes without Internet access. . 6.  Freeze on debt payments, rent and bills. Abolition of punitive benefits system restructuring (Universal Credit) and full provision of benefits to the unemployed, sick pay and child benefit. . 7.  Increased financial support for small businesses and legislation to force insurers to cover lost income due to the crisis backdated to 11 March 2020. . 8.  Fines for employers who fail to protect their workers and damages for affected employees. BREAK the Blockade on Cuba! 🇨🇺🤝🇬🇧 . The people of Cuba have played a key role in fighting the Coronavirus, with their anti-viral medication being used to treat it, their doctors being sent around the world to fight it, and their country even taking in a stranded British cruise ship to treat Coronavirus patients on board. . And yet, Cuba continues to be under siege from a criminal blockade, perpetrated by the United States, intended to strangle the Cuban economy and society. This is despite almost every other country in the world opposing the blockade, and the increasingly vocal unpopularity of the blockade even amongst staunch US allies like the British Government. . Today marks the 149th anniversary of the founding of the Paris Commune - and the beginning of the new era of international working class revolution! 🔴✊🇫🇷 On the 18th of March 1871, the working people of Paris revolted against the French government's attempt to seize the arms they had taken to defend the city from the invading Prussians. Taking over the city they formed their own municipal government, putting forward a radical programme with the aim of creating a more just and equal society. The Commune would be suppressed two months later by the forces of the French government, but it represents the first attempt at working class state power and a continuing inspiration!
