The Young Communist League of Britain stands in solidarity with our fraternal party and fellow World Federation of Democratic Youth (WFDY) member Savez Komunističke Omladine Jugoslavije (SKOJ) in demanding the immediate release of comrade Miloš Karavezić, General Secretary of SKOJ.
Comrade Miloš was arrested in a violent raid at 8am on July 1st in Turkey as part of international youth events in opposition to NATO’s upcoming Summit in Ankara on July 7th and 8th. Most shockingly, Miloš and other youths are now being threatened with spurious terrorism charges. This arrest continues a long-running campaign of repression against progressive forces in Turkey such as the Türkiye Komünist Gençliğ (TKG), who are regularly threatened with similar charges for exercising their right to demonstrate against US- NATO bases such as İncirlik, who’s continued presence constitute an occupation of Turkish territory.
From Belgrade to Baghdad, NATO’s bloody history proves its title as the world’s largest terrorist organisation, with member states who’s ruling classes again seek remilitarisation to secure profits while jailing youth who oppose being sent to die or kill their brothers and sisters for corporate greed.
Comrade Miloš Karavezić is a consistent patriot, internationalist and political activist who has never been convicted or violated the law. This flagrant attack on the right to political opinion does not stop at Turkey’s borders but is felt here in Britain also, where the youth demand jobs not arms.
