Following the General Election the Central Committee recognises we are in a new situation and have decided to adjust our work accordingly. To this end Comrades on the committee have considered their roles and responsibilities, and some changes have been made. Dónal Thomas has stepped down from the role of Chair and former Vice Chair Maise Riley has been elected in his place. The Committee would like to thank Comrade Thomas for the work he has done for the League for the past year in the post of Chair. Other changes to CC Officerships will be circulated internally to YCL members.

Newly elected Chair Comrade Maise Riley has said “It is a pleasure and an honour to be elected as Chair of our League. I will be working with the Central Committee to help intensify our work, which is now more vital than ever. With a Labour Government in power it is vital for Communists to be taking up the leading oppositional role to the Government that is so desperately needed, particularly to defeat the reactionary foreign policy of the Starmer Government and its support for both the war in Ukraine and the Israeli genocide in Palestine. I will also be beginning the preparations for Congress 2025, and ensuring that this Committee has carried out the work Congress mandated it to undertake. As Communists we must constantly be self critical and reflect on what has changed and what work needs to be done in the coming months. I look forward to meeting Comrades at upcoming events, and doing my utmost to serve the League!”

General Secretary Comrade Georgina Andrews added “I’m looking forward to continuing the work of the League alongside our new Chair, marking the first time the Young Communist League has had a woman Chair and General Secretary together at the helm of our organisation. I’m sure together with the rest of the Committee we can intensify our work and our struggle against the new Government, and clearly put the case for peace and socialism to young people in Britain at a time where it is more vital than ever to put an end to imperialist war.”
