The YCL calls for the release of all Palestinians unjustly detained by Israeli forces, who suffer daily under a systematic regime of torture, starvation, medical neglect and sexual violence, as well as for the British government to sever the country’s alliance with the genocidal apartheid state of Israel and the establishment of an independent state of Palestine in practice.

The Young Communist League of Britain condemns in the strongest terms the ratification of the “Prisoner Execution” law by the Knesset in Israel. Beyond the deplorable application of capital punishment towards Palestinians only, the law merely requires convictions to have a majority vote as opposed to unanimity, and sentences must be carried out within 90 days. Considering the 96% conviction rate of Palestinians in the occupied West Bank through military courts, this is tantamount to mass murder.

This act merely gives legal cover to the existing reality where Palestinians in the occupation’s jails face murder through starvation and violence, where residents of the Occupied West Bank endure martyrs at the hands of terrorist settler gangs protected by the occupation Army and camps in Gaza and Lebanon are targeted by American-supplied and Israeli-operated aircraft.

While systemic discrimination unequally targeting oppressed groups can be seen throughout the history of imperialism and colonialism, not even Apartheid South Africa had the gall to codify the murder of a specific ethnic group.

The legal division of ethnic groups in the application of the death penalty has only one historical precedent: Nazi Germany. The “Decree of 4 December 1941 concerning the organization of criminal jurisdiction against Poles and Jews in the incorporated eastern territories” specifically singled out Poles and Jews for the death penalty in the so-called “Incorporated Eastern Territories”, i.e., those territories of Poland annexed by the Nazi regime.

Parliamentarians resident in illegal settlements with pins depicting a hangman’s noose and popping champagne to celebrate the legal right to execute people based on their ethnicity is symptomatic of a sick ideology fundamentally based on racism and the exploitation of man by man: Zionism.

With this act, the genocidal apartheid state of Israel has plunged into ever further depths of moral depravity and continues to spit on the memory of the Holocaust.

Beyond this, Israeli forces have called on Christian and Druze communities in southern Lebanon to push out their Shiite brothers and sisters seeking refuge in their homes. It is clear that Israel only seeks to escalate its genocide of the Palestinian people and its ethnic cleansing of neighbouring populations.

Following the Red Army’s liberation of the death camps, the free peoples of the world determined “never again”. With the passing of this law, the world has since failed on that promise.

For any who continue to cover their eyes and ears to the ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people, this must be the final clarion call.

Whether through executions by the hangman’s noose, murder from settler gangs or the continued bombardment of tents in the Gaza Strip, we reaffirm that the battle in the jails is inseparable from that being waged in the occupied West Bank, Gaza Strip or the camps of Lebanon and the Palestinian people will overcome this depraved attempt to subjugate their struggle for peace, dignity and return.
