Summer Camp 2024

The YCL is excited to announce our annual Summer Camp will be held 16-18 August 2024 at West Leeds Activity Centre. We are glad to be returning to Leeds, a city with a proud history of working class struggle, and we welcome comrades from across Britain to come together to write a new chapter in that history.

Our Summer Camp carries on the memory of YCL legend Benny Rothman (a main organiser of the 1932 Kinder Scout Trespass), giving young workers from across Britain the opportunity to learn, socialise and enjoy our natural heritage. The weekend promises to be a great one packed with fun activities and practical training. Whether you’re an experienced YCL member, a recent recruit or a friend of the League, Summer Camp will have something for you.

The full 2024 timetable and information will be published shortly. Summer Camp is set to feature plenty of outdoor recreation and social activities as well as lots of political discussion and education sessions. We have arranged a comfortable indoor setting for all meals, classes and socials (the British summer giving no guarantees for outdoors!)

Transport shouldn’t be a problem, as the campsite is only a stone’s throw from Leeds train station. Contact your local YCL branch to see about travelling as a group.

Summer Camp will cost £30 (unwaged) or £50 (waged) which is all inclusive with full board.

We have tried to make the Camp as cheap as possible but please get in contact if cost looks like an issue for you. Comrades are encouraged to stay for both nights, however if circumstances mean you can’t make it till later on or if you need to leave a bit earlier our arrangements will allow flexibility.

Please note the weekend will be strictly sober to ensure everyone has a safe, relaxing and fulfilling time.

Anyone aged 14-30 is welcome. Please state your age and gender when booking so that we can ensure appropriate provision. If you are under 18, we will need parental consent for you to attend.

If you don’t have your own tent or if you have a tent with spare room and are happy to share, please indicate this so that we can make the most of our resources.

This year’s Summer Camp should be the best yet. See you in Leeds!
